The SnowGeek education program is founded on the ideals of excellence in students and instructors, and openness and accessibility of education material in Avalanche Education.
The SnowGeek education program is focused on excellence. We believe that the best way to achieve this is to focus on creating the best student experience and developing the best instructors. To that end, SnowGeek focuses on winter long mentoring rather than single weekend focused courses in both instructor and student development. SnowGeek also employs the use of technology such as online tools and Edx to revolutionize avalanche education.
EdX is a non-profit created by founding partners Harvard and MIT. We're bringing the best of higher education to students around the world. EdX offers MOOCs and interactive online classes in subjects including law, history, science, engineering, business, social sciences, computer science, public health, and artificial intelligence (AI).
Since our founding in May 2012, edX has been committed to an open source vision. We believe in pursuing non-profit, open-source opportunities for expanding online education around the world.
SnowGeek uses the Edx open source project as a new platform for managing SnowGeek course material. In keeping with both Edx's and SnowGeek's principles of openness, the online course and its material are free for personal use. This means that any student, anywhere in the world, can take the online course to learn about avalanche education.
